Shop Intro Night – Tuesday, 27 March, 2012

What:

I’ve had an idea in my brain for a while that I should schedule an evening where I introduce people on how to use some of the more …intimidating shop equipment safely, effectively, and confidently. This intro night will be with a focus on hands-on skill development, while keeping the talking relatively brief.

Lecture Topics will include:

  1. Safety Philosophy in a shop environment
  2. Identifying hazards with SCIENCE!
  3. Personal Protective Equipment

Hands-on Safe-Use Demonstrations will include the following machines:

  1. Drill Press
  2. Cordless Drill (may skip this one, or cover it very briefly, if everyone has used one before)
  3. Bench Grinder
  4. Angle Grinder
  5. Wood Lathe
  6. Scroll Saw
  7. Buffing Machine

Where: VHS
When:  Tuesday, 27 March, 2012 @ 7:30
Who: anyone that uses the tools at the hackspace or would like a intro in to basic power tools
